The route through kanakapura is clean and stress free. One can reach Kanapura Road by hopping onto nice road and alighting to the kanapura road. One has to reach kanapura and go further 35+ kms till T junction. At the T junction, one has to turn left to reach shivanasumdra. It would be 40+ kms towards the destination.
Best time to travel during the day, leave Bangalore by 7:00am and you can reach the place by 10:30 to 11:00am. Be there for around 4 hours and travel back and reach Bangalore by 5pm maximum. There are many places on the way back which are worth a vist, namely,
Talakadu - 20 kms
Somanathpura - 35 kms
Muthathi - 40kms
Pyramid valley - 45kms to Bangalore.
After 20kms from Harohalli on Kanakapura Road, you see a beautiful place for breakfast.
It is called Adige Mane, The Kitchen (Veg and Egg) restaurant. It is beautifully located with good authentic breakfast and meals served. The theme of the restaurant is quite clearly visible with a colourful bullock cart with out the bull, some colorful pots.
Below is the gate entry to the shivanasamudra. It is all restricted and reserved area and once need to be cautiously drive around. One will reach some bridges and tank bunds which are weak and very narrow.
Once you reach the place, it would be thrilling experience. Of course, it would be tiring as well. If you want to reach down to the falls, one should be ready to down trek a bit. It is perfectly safe and easy to do, please bear in mind, it would be tiring while up trekking. One can access the falls and play a bit in the water including swimming.
One must take Tappe, round in shape (raft) and go around the still waters as well as under current waters near the falls. It will be promising experience, esp. during monsoon, the waters are so heavy you feel showered near it. Take one round of swim clothes to get inside the waters.
However, it is dangerous to be near to the water falls as it is recorded for having whirlpools and it is also dangerously deep.
Food & Snacks : Strictly advisable to carry, one can enjoy the food when had under a tree or some shelter. This will be a very good lunch experience. One could find some snacks and soft drinks sold at petty shops. There are no restaurants or so in shivanasamudra. The only other option if you are not carrying food to drive to mysore and then find ample restaurants, like adigas, kamats etc.
Best Time to Visit: Anytime. Preferably Monsoon, July to December.
