Yelagiri is a beautiful hill station in Tamilnadu. Surprisingly, the hill is really extra wide and huge that it encompasses a city like place on top of the hill called Yelagiri. It is situatied, amidst four hills, Yelagiri also is called as Elagiri in Tamilnadu and comprises of 14 villages. The hill is quite green and thick by nature and boasts a forest reserve too. It is an astonishing experience to be in this place.  

The drive to this place amazes the most as it is an adventurous Ghat section with 14 hair pin bends and each one is a challenge to overcome. The roads are laid with a steep downward hill view on the one side of the road which is very terrifying. It is a thrilling experience to be driving on these nicely laid ways. 

Travel 

Yelagiri is around 160kms from Bangalore and is an apt place for one day trip. Early start by 6 am in morning will take you 3 hours and you reach by 10 am with all the necessary breaks of 1 hour for breakfast and coffees. One of the attractions at Yelagiri is, it hosts a wild Adventure Sports facility run by a WildZone organization and reaching the place by 10:30 am is recommended as it is the best time to do adventure sports. 

There is a only one and the best route to reach this place and that is via Hosur road (and then Chennai highway). It is an amazing road with 6 lanes for almost 120 kms. After which the roads are still good but narrow ones. 

The way to reach this hill station is pretty easy and can be covered in 2 and half to 3 hours on a moderate traffic conditions especially till Hosur. The most challenging and irritating experience will be at Toll Gates and it is worse if it is a long weekend (like Friday or Monday being holiday), the toll gates get choked and one has to spend minimum 30 mins to clear the toll gates. There are 2 toll gates on the way to Yelagiri, one towards Hosur and another towards Chennai road. 

Yelagiri, is actually on Chennai Road and not Hosur road, so one must a take a right turn after the second toll gate on Bangalore-Hosur highway to get on to Bangalore-Chennai national highway, this right turn is immediately after the second flyover from the second toll gate. 

Finally Yelagiri...

After close to 60+ kms on Chennai road, one must watch for Kethandapatti road. This is a very likely miss, please be watchful and enquire people and hop on to this small road right below one the of the flyovers. This is goes through a village and lands on a to railway crossing ( a manned one). After corssing the railway gate, one must travel close to 8 to 10kms to reach a state highway and take a right turn. After 1 and half kms on this road, one will see a yelagiri board indicating 14kms to the hills. From here it is very exciting to reach the place. Pay caution through out the ghat section and be safe.

• Wild Zone - Adventure sports. 
• The most exciting part of the whole Yelagiri if you like adventure. There is a organization called WildZone and they offer multiple adventure sports like, rock climbing, quad biking, zipline, rappelling etc.
• The cost of which is very reasonable and nominal.
• They have very effective safety measures and the organization has large experience in conducting such sports.

•  Velavan Temple



Velavan Temple

• A beautiful ancient temple and will give a nice out look of the temple architecture. A temple for lord Murugan is located atop of a hillock. The location of this temple also serves as a viewing point. From here one can have the pleasure of viewing the green woods of the Yelagiri Hills.  

• Jalagamparai Water Falls
• This a good decent water falls. The "Attaru" River passes through the Yelagiri hills and falls from 30 mtrs, it is an hour’s trek from the hills.

• Punganur Lake

• It is a lake that gives one an experience of a beautiful boat ride. It is also adorned by a fountain in the center. This lake is clean and well maintained.

Stay

As it can be covered in a single day from Bangalore, there is no recommendation to stay, however if one would like to spend overnight here in the hills if traveled from far distances, they can do in a beautiful hotel called Kumararaja Hotels near the WildZone Adventure Sports arena.  

Eat

There are multiple eating joints on the way to Yelagiri for breakfast and quick snacks. Few McDs and Cafe Coffee days are also on the route. The lunch is best had at yelagiri hills. There are numerous decent restaurants on the hills serving all types of cuisines. 

Best Time to Visit

Summers, April to Aug. And if one enjoys winters, this place offers chillness up to 11 degress of temperature.
